If my cells were “stressed,” then they would turn yellow due to the presence of a protein called IGFBP-3. If they weren’t, it was right back to the drawing board. At that moment, I was not sure if my cells were stressed, but I knew that I was.

I became interested in biomedical science at a young age while listening to my dad tell stories about his experiences as an Emergency Room physician. Those stories inspired my curiosity about the causes of disease and how scientists and doctors discover ways to cure and help patients.
