Students, faculty, and staff from UT Southwestern School of Health Professions recently gathered to recognize top educators and staff during the 3rd annual event at the Excellence in Education Foundation Auditorium on the North Campus.

“We are most grateful for the outstanding efforts of our faculty and staff,” said Dr. Jon Williamson, Dean of the School of Health Professions. “It is their hard work and dedication that is responsible for our success.”

Outstanding Faculty Awards, as voted by the students, went to Robert Drake, Assistant Professor of Rehabilitation Counseling; Leslie Gray, Assistant Professor of Health Care Sciences; Dr. Gary Iwamoto, Professor of Cell Biology, in Health Care Sciences; Dr. Eugene Jones, Chairman and Professor of Physician Assistant Studies; Dr. Ed Mulligan, Associate Professor of Physical Therapy and of Orthopaedic Surgery; Susan Rodder, Assistant Professor of Clinical Nutrition; and Steven Russell, Clinical Instructor of Health Care Sciences.

Recognized with Outstanding Educator Awards were Lora Day, Instructor of Clinical Nutrition; Tara Dickson, Assistant Professor of Physical Therapy; Grant Holland, Instructor of Rehabilitation Counseling; Catherine Judd, a Dallas County Jail employee who works at Parkland Memorial Hospital; and Brent Romine, a clinical educator for Ottobock USA, an Austin-based maker of prosthetics, orthotics, and other products.

Three Parkland employees – Ms. Dickson, Ms. Judd, and Cheryl Lair – earned Outstanding Preceptor awards, along with William Lee, from the Department of Radiation Oncology.

Two members of the faculty received research awards: Dr. Fan Gao, Associate Professor of Health Care Sciences, who received the Established Investigator Award; and Dr. Masaki Mizuno, Assistant Professor of Health Care Sciences, and of Internal Medicine, who was presented the New Investigator Award.

Three staff members earned Outstanding Professional Staff Awards: Sabrina Little-Beach, Prosthetics and Orthotics; Heather Salinas, Physician Assistant Studies; and Deborah Sanford, Health Care Sciences.
