Faculty members inducted into Shine Academy

Two faculty members at UT Southwestern Medical Center were recently inducted into the UT Kenneth I. Shine, M.D., Academy of Health Science Education.

Dr. Angela Mihalic, Associate Dean for Student Affairs and Professor of Pediatrics at UT Southwestern Medical School, and Dr. Dorothy Sendelbach, Professor of Pediatrics, were inducted during the Shine academy’s annual conference in Austin.

Dr. Mihalic is a UT Southwestern Medical School graduate who completed her internship and residency at Children’s Medical Center Dallas. Her honors include being one of 10 faculty members chosen for a 2014 Regents’ Outstanding Teaching award.

Dr. Sendelbach, a general pediatrician in the Division of Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine, graduated from the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, which in 2012 merged into Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences. She completed her residency at Children’s.

The Shine Academy’s bylaws say that “The Academy is a formal organization of distinguished scholars recognized for their teaching excellence, and is committed to the enhancement of health science education.” Those selected to membership “must be outstanding teachers in The University of Texas health science system” in categories of excellence that include though are not limited to direct teaching, curriculum development, learner performance assessment, counseling and mentorship, educational administration/leadership and scholarship, and research.
