Medical School

Class of 1955: Stanley J. Zimmerman, M.D., continues to practice Internal Medicine and Endocrinology at Houston’s Zimmerman Medical Clinic, now in its 50th year.  He and his wife, Jane Louis, recently celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Dr. Zimmerman continues to teach third-year medical students from Baylor College of Medicine and mentors foreign doctors studying for their ECMFG exams. He fondly remembers his professors who lectured and made rounds with the students and were interested in making the students the best doctors they could be.

Class of 1995: Anna Lopez-Stratton, M.D., has joined Mission Haywood Family Medicine, a practice of Mission Medical Associates. Dr. Lopez-Stratton returns to Haywood County in North Carolina, where she lived and worked for 15 years, to join Mission. She is returning to Haywood County from Confluence Health in Brewster, Washington, where she served as a staff physician in an outpatient rural clinic.

Dr. Lopez-Stratton completed her residency in Family Medicine at the School of Medicine of East Carolina University in Greenville. She is board certified in family medicine and is a member of the North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians. She was also recognized as the Haywood County Physician of the Year for two consecutive years.

Class of 1996: Sidney K. Gicheru, M.D., an Ophthalmologist practicing in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, completes his term as President of the Texas Ophthalmological Association in May 2015. He is also a Board member of OPHTHPAC, the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) political action committee.

Dr. Gicheru is a 2012 graduate of the AAO’s Leadership Development Program and has always had an interest in Global Health.  He has served as faculty of the Asia-Pacific Academy of Ophthalmology Leadership Development Program since 2012 and has taught classes in Japan, China, Vietnam, Thailand, and the Philippines. Dr. Gicheru was nominated recently to the Advisory Council of the African Ophthalmology Council (AOC) and will serve as Director of the AOC’s new Leadership Development Program.  The first class is scheduled in Kenya later this year.

He lives in Dallas with his wife, Irene, and children – Trevor, 13, and Claire, 6. 

Class of 2000: Colby Evans, M.D. has been appointed Chair of the Board of Directors of the National Psoriasis Foundation for a two-year term. The NPF is the largest non-profit organization representing the 7 million people in America living with psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Dr. Evans has served on the board since 2010, focusing on state and federal advocacy and patient outreach. Dr. Evans is married with three young children and is a private-practice dermatologist with Evans Dermatology Partners in Austin.

Friday, Oct. 9, 2015: Reunion for the Platinum Classes (1944-1964)
