Our residents receive strong training in inpatient and outpatient procedures, and graduate with confidence in their skills to continue performing these procedures in their careers. Our training occurs through hands-on experience in supervised clinical settings as well as workshops held monthly during didactics. Our diverse patient population across our teaching sites also ensures our residents gain competence in understanding appropriate indications, discussing informed consent, and performing these procedures for many different types of patients.

Some highlights of the procedures our residents learn to perform include:

  • Women's Health: Colposcopy, Endometrial Biopsy, Long Acting Reversible Contraception
  • Skin: I&D, "Lumps and Bumps", Skin Biopsies, Excisions, Cryotherapy
  • MSK: Joint Injections, Splints and Casting
  • Inpatient: Paracentesis, Thoracentesis and Lumbar Punctures
  • POCUS

Our residents also have access to the UT Southwestern Simulation Center, a state-of-the-art facility with high-fidelity training equipment for a variety of clinical procedures.
