The Department of Family and Community Medicine is developing a strong research core to support innovative research on primary care and community and population health.
- Qualifications: Doctorate degree (Ph.D., M.D., D.P.H., or other similar degree) in social science, behavioral health, social work, public health, health services research, or a related field. Experience in academia/institution of higher learning, particularly academic medicine required. Position will be at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor, commensurate with academic accomplishments and experience. Consideration may be given to applicants seeking less than a full-time schedule.
- Experience: Must have a strong track record of funded research and high-quality publications; excellent grant writing skills; and the ability to collaborate with other researchers and clinical faculty. The ability to bring extramural funding to UTSW is a plus.
- Duties: Write and secure extramural research grants, particularly NIH and other federal funding, to support research activities; mentor faculty and trainees on research and manuscripts; and assist with building collaborations with other departments, institutions, and community partners.
- Desired qualifications: Expertise in one of the following research areas: health disparities, HIV, cancer and cardio- metabolic disorders, behavior health, or trauma. Experience in team science and leading small group research projects is desirable.

Job Responsibilities:
- Oversee clinical programs and operations, quality improvement efforts and support medical directors and other leaders.
- Co-Lead the growth of the new Primary Care Service Line and co-managing regional satellite practices. Plan, manage, implement and evaluate clinical programs that promote the delivery of value-based care in a cost-efficient manner.
- Continue and expand efforts to promote practice redesign to achieve optimal patient outcomes and improve the clinical team’s joy in practicing family medicine.
- As a member of the department’s Executive Committee, contribute to the development and implementation of departmental strategic planning, budgeting, management, and operations.
- Provide direct patient care and family medicine education.
- Promote scholarships in family medicine and population health.
- Facilitate streamlined integration of clinical services of the Department of Family & Community Medicine across clinical sites in the DFW region.
Required Qualifications:
- Board certified in Family Medicine with a track record of success in the administration of large clinical programs, preferably in an academic environment.
- Successful candidates will have progressive leadership and administrative experience in family medicine educational, research, and clinical programs.
- Eligible for appointment as associate professor or professor at the UT Southwestern Medical Center. Initial faculty appointment will reflect the successful applicant’s qualifications and professional achievements.
- A well-developed scholarly/research portfolio with evidence of multi-disciplinary applications and external funding appropriate to complement and expand existing expertise in the department is preferred.

Job Summary
The Department of Family and Community Medicine seeks a Senior Research Associate to join our team!
First, the Senior Research Associate will join research directed by Dr. Nora Gimpel to explore community health outcomes through Student-Run Free Clinics. Data collection to measure success of the programs, such as the number of students participating and percentage of student participation benchmarked to peer academic medical centers, the number of patients and clinical encounters, and the number of quality-improvement and research projects generated from the program.
Second, the Research Associate Senior will join research directed by Dr. Rebecca Eary. Her research area focuses on medical and psychological care of cancer survivors, especially those with a history of childhood, adolescent, and young adult cancers. Her needs for research support include a candidate with strong communication skills, organization, experience working with data sets (cleaning, coding, running basic statistics). Experience working on teams that are multidisciplinary is crucial., including the ability to be independently productive. A working knowledge of the academic publication process would be highly regarded. The successful candidate will be integrally involved in working with research collaborators across disciplines (family medicine, community health, nursing, epidemiology, public health, psychology, oncology, etc.) to support the coordination of research efforts, and supporting the interpretation of study findings to maximize their benefit for at-risk populations. As such, we aim to find a candidate who is passionate about working in healthcare, and with diverse communities. The successful candidate should also demonstrate strong communication skills, with evidence of team-based collaboration in fast-paced environments.
This will be a hybrid role, days in office and days remotely will be determined upon hire.
Experience and Education
- Ph.D. degree with major coursework in field of assignment and no experience required.
- Master’s degree with major coursework in field of assignment and five (5) years laboratory experience, including at least two (2) years at level of Research Associate or equivalent.Organizes laboratory to which assigned; determines work assignments of subordinates, advising them as to techniques, procedures, and equipment to be utilized in solution of work problems; and reviews completed work for professional quality and attainment of desired results.

Job Duties
- Takes, records, and reports patient vital signs using medical equipment; performs procedures of low complexity such as visual acuity, development and/or musculoskeletal screening, POC testing, phlebotomy, EKG testing, and other approved clinic specific diagnostic testing.
- Escorts or transports patients to exam rooms or treatment rooms, or other areas as directed.
- Documents completion of patient care tasks in medical records, and reinforces education provided by the physician or nurse seeking assistance from the nurse or physician as appropriate.
- Confirms appropriate patient consent and authorization forms are signed for research and/or medical treatment.
- Assists in care of patients by preparing exam rooms for patient care, facilitating use of diagnostic equipment, and ensuring availability of needed patient information, such as results of diagnostic exams and medical records.
- Assumes responsibility for weekly autoclave temperature monitoring, POC testing QA, and monthly audit report on compliance as directed by clinic management.
- Serves as preceptor and resource for newly-hired medical assistants and medical assistant externs, actively participating in their integration into the department.
- May perform a variety of administrative/clerical duties, scheduling patient appointments, precertifying procedures, answering patient phones by collecting data to forward to the nurse for triage as directed.
- Inspects equipment and facilities visually and physically to ensure patient safety and proper functioning. Maintains adequate stock of supplies as required for work area.
- May function as a clinic safety officer, verifying each employee’s knowledge of fire safety and the evacuation plan for the work area as directed.
- Maintains current customer service, clinical, and technical skills by attending training programs and procedures. Participates in annual skills competency review.
