Texas Health Resources - Presbyterian Hospital Practice

About the Site

The UT Southwestern Family Medicine Residency Program expanded to the Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas (THD) in July 2017, establishing the first academic program in alliance with Texas Health Resources. This partnership created a dynamic Family Medicine Residency clinic on the THD campus, providing unique educational opportunities under the umbrella of Southwestern Health Resources. As a community hospital, THD gives residents the opportunity to engage directly with private practice physicians and their groups, bridging the gap between academic training and real-world practice. The clinic serves a diverse patient population, including fully insured individuals, Medicare and Medicaid recipients, and proudly maintains an inclusive, LGBTQI + friendly environment.

The THD clinic offers residents an immersive 360-degree family medicine training experience. Residents gain hands-on experience in Family Medicine Obstetrics under the supervision of family medicine–trained obstetrics faculty, as well as exposure to complex care and geriatric home visits guided by geriatric and palliative care-trained family medicine attendings. Procedural training is robust, with faculty-led clinics in dermatologic and musculoskeletal procedures. A Lifestyle and Wellness Clinic, supervised by behavioral health faculty and a clinical nutritionist, allows residents to address preventative care and patient wellness. The clinic also houses a dedicated Pharmacy Clinic, where residents collaborate with experienced pharmacy faculty on complex polypharmacy cases, diabetes education including continuous glucose monitoring, hypertension management, and anticoagulation therapy.

Additionally, THD provides residents with individualized rotations where they often serve as the sole trainee, allowing for one-on-one mentorship with specialists. Residents develop vital skills in point-of-care ultrasound and engage regularly with an on-site social worker to support patients’ durable medical equipment needs and broader social and welfare concerns. This comprehensive, interdisciplinary environment fosters a deep understanding of continuity care across life stages and systems, equipping residents with the tools to succeed in any future practice setting.

“I liked integrating THD and Parkland clinics; it was a great learning experience since they are very different patient populations.”
