Education and Training
The UT Southwestern Medical Center Family Medicine Residency is unique in that it offers the best of both the community and University Hospital settings for learning. Residents train in Parkland Hospital, UT Southwestern University Hospitals, Texas Health Resources Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and Children’s Health℠ Children’s Medical Center, as well as numerous outpatient locations in the community. This is beneficial because graduates learn in both the intense training environment of teaching hospitals and in the real world of the community.
Our practices at Texas Health Dallas and the Parkland Family Medicine Clinic provide residents with an outstanding, well-rounded training experience working with both insured and underserved patient populations. We work with a diverse array of patients and do not discriminate based on race, age, religion, ability, marital status, sexual orientation, sex or gender identity.
The Community Medicine Fellowship at UT Southwestern Medical Center educates primary care physicians in effectively using principles of public health, epidemiology, and preventive medicine in new and innovative ways. This TMB accredited fellowship prepares primary care physicians for leadership roles in the community and in academic medicine.
The Undersea and Hyperbaric Fellowship at Texas Health Dallas offers training in a unique clinical laboratory that achieves various altitudes, depths, and/or temperatures accurately using a precision multi-place hypo/hyperbaric environmental chamber. Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the primary clinical focus. Accreditation by the Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society and approved by the ACGME.
Our Department is actively involved in medical education here at UT Southwestern, and is involved with student activities in a variety of areas including the medical school curriculum, student interest groups, community health activities and extracurricular activities.
