Foundation Giving

Who we are and what we do

The Foundation Giving team works to promote UT Southwestern’s engagement with charitable foundations in order to address the most critical priorities of the institution and the needs of the community.

The Foundation Giving team provides assistance with:

  • Identifying qualified foundations and disseminating funding opportunities;
  • Cultivating, and stewarding strategic relationships with charitable foundations;
  • Developing and coordinating solicitations for charitable support;
  • Assisting with proposal review and securing approval to submit; and
  • Arranging site visits, reporting, and stewardship.

The Foundation Giving team is here to help faculty and staff navigate philanthropic funding opportunities, and you can reach out to a member of the Foundation Giving team for further guidance and partnership:

Resources for Faculty and Staff

UT Southwestern Office of Development & Alumni Relations and the Foundation Giving team work closely with the Office of Sponsored Programs to ensure funding is being coordinated and accepted in compliance with institutional policies and guidelines. Because the words “gift” and “grant” are frequently used interchangeably, determining which office should coordinate your request can be complicated.

To get started, view a list of private funders that have already been vetted. Foundations underlined should be submitted through the Development Office, the others should be handled through Sponsored Programs Administration.

If your potential funder is not on the list, here are a few indicators to help determine who should assist with securing funds.

  1. Does the funder want to support a 501 (c)(3) not-for-profit entity? – See Development
  2. Are overhead (indirect costs) not allowed in the budget? – See Development
  3. Does this application require the president’s signature? – See Development
  4. Will the funder request intellectual property or licensing? – See Sponsored Programs
  5. Will the award include subcontracts with other organizations? – See Sponsored Programs
  6. Is the funder a government agency? – See Sponsored Programs

If you have any questions or aren’t sure about where to submit your application, please contact the Foundation Giving team at foundationapps@utsouthwestern.edu.
