At UT Southwestern, students are inducted into Alpha Omega Alpha either near the end of their junior year, or near the beginning of their senior year. New members are elected by existing AOA student members through a well-defined process. Any student with a GPA in the top 12.5% of the class is eligible to apply for election during the junior year, and any student with a GPA in the top 25% the class is eligible to apply for election during the senior year.

The UTSW AOA chapter has well-established selection guidelines for the evaluation of applicants. These guidelines were designed to ensure that academics, service, extracurricular activities, and leadership are all considered in the selection process.

All eligible students are invited to submit a CV that addresses these four characteristics. At the appropriate time each year, the AOA leadership will notify the student body to provide details of the application process and to invite eligible students to submit their CVs.
