For Teachers

Are you a high school teacher who feels uncomfortable teaching lab exercises in your Middle School Science, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, or Biotechnnology class? Have you been teaching these subjects a short time and would like more experience or pointers from an expert? Have you been asked to teach a subject next year although you have no experience? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you might be interested in one of our STARS Summer Science Camps!

The STARS Summer Science Camps at UT Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas began with the Biology Camp in 2008 and Chemistry and Physics Camps were added in 2013. The Anatomy and Physiology camp was new for the Summer of 2021, and the Biotechnology Camp launched in the Summer of 2022. A large majority of the STARS Science Camps are an opportunity to gain experience in teaching high school science classes, especially in lab exercises that accompany classroom learning.

The Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Anatomy and Physiology, and Biotechnology Camps consist of two master teachers, ten teachers, and 30 students. For the high school science classes, the students are rising 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th graders, and rising college Freshmen who will take the subject in school next fall. The Middle School Camp is available to seven teachers and 30 rising 7th and 8th grade students.
