Science Starts Here

Recognizing the opportunity to provide a unique educational experience for young children, UT Southwestern and Dallas Independent School District have partnered to create a new facility that will provide young children a firm foundation in STEM. Dallas ISD is established a new Biomedical Preparatory at UT Southwestern in fall 2022. It is located on our campus on Forest Park Road and the curriculum was designed to stimulate curiosity about the wonders of science and to provide young children a foundation for future discovery.

Real-World Science

This partnership will give students firsthand exposure to real-world science as well as direct access to exciting STEM and biomedical science-related field trips. By embedding hands-on activities such as robotics, experiments, and computer coding into the core curriculum, students will begin to build critical thinking skills and gain confidence in their knowledge of STEM subjects.

Application process:

  • Annual application process will open in November and close in January
  • Enrollment offers are generated via a randomized lottery designed to achieve socioeconomic diversity
  • Enrollment will begin with prekindergarten (children 3-4 years old) through first grade and add an additional grade level each year, up to eighth grade

Things to know:

  • For admission, children of UT Southwestern employees and learners are eligible to apply
  • Transportation is provided for students living within Dallas ISD boundaries

Message from the Principal

Dr. Roberto Gonzalez

Welcome to the Biomedical Preparatory at UT Southwestern, where we will nurture the next generation of scientists who will solve the problems our society may encounter in the future.

Our school’s vision is that all students will become passionate, curious, and innovative thinkers who can find solutions to problems through research and discovery. With that in mind, we offer a curriculum based on STEM education and biomedical science enriched with social and emotional practices. We are reimagining how we prepare our students to step into a world that is constantly evolving in research, medicine, and technology. By doing so, we are changing the narrative, offering a different, more dynamic approach to education that benefits all stakeholders – students, parents, teachers, and staff.

This Dallas ISD choice school will be a place to expand knowledge and develop STEM-based skills through classroom learning and real-world experiences. Our goal is to create an environment that nurtures those opportunities. We hope our students and future leaders take advantage of these options to develop the skills necessary to succeed in their chosen fields.

In collaboration with UTSW, I look forward to serving you and your children this school year.
