USMLE Preparation
Student Academic Support Services (SASS) directs a required preclinical course to support successful preparation for the USMLE Step 1 examination through effective study, structure, and accountability. Students prepare a detailed calendar, take practice exams, use resources appropriately, and report their weekly progress to the faculty course director.
Students are expected to complete their preparation and sit for the Step 1 exam by the end of the course period. During the dedicated Step 1 course, students are encouraged to use resources that include question banks and study guides.
UT Southwestern provides access to electronic resources that students may use for USMLE test preparation, including access through the Heath Sciences Digital Library and Learning Center to UWorld USMLE Step 1 QBank, BoardVitals USMLE Step 1 Board Review Questions and Practice Tests, and StatPearls. The UT Southwestern library may also provide other materials as needed after consulting with and receiving approval from medical school faculty.
