How to Apply

The Emergency Medicine Residency Program accepts applications through the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Electronic Residency Application System. We participate in the National Resident Matching Program, and it will be necessary for applicants to participate.

Please apply through ERAS to complete the application process. Following a review of the application materials, select candidates will be invited to participate in the interview process. This UT Southwestern program will participate in the NRMP match process for matriculation.

Application Timeline

The earliest we will send interview invitations will be on Tuesday, October 15, 2019. Although we will send most invitations starting that day, we will continue our application review process until November. Our interview dates this year will be as follows:

November: 1st, 5th, 8th, 12th, 15th, 19th, and 22nd

December: 3rd, 6th, 10th, 13th, 17th, and 20th

International Medical Graduates

We accept applications from international medical graduates (and United States graduates) only through ERAS. Our residency program is very competitive and receives more than 1,000 applications for each new class of 22 trainees.

As you consider applying to our Emergency Medicine Residency Program, please be advised of the following:

  • You must be certified by the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates
  • We accept non-U.S. citizen applicants only with ECFMG-sponsored J-1 visas for residency training at UT Southwestern. We do not sponsor or accept H-1B or O-1 visa applicants for residency training. Further information is available through UT Southwestern’s Office of International Affairs.
  • You must be eligible for a post-graduate Training Permit from the State of Texas to train here. Information is available from the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners.
