Internal Medicine Residency
Message from Dr. Salahuddin Kazi
Dear Applicants, welcome to UT Southwestern. Residency is a time of great personal and professional development, and in our program, we are truly committed to continuously improve the experience of training through feedback, advocacy and innovation. We are guided by the charge of promoting and sustaining a clinical learning environment that transforms you from medical student to independent professional in a purposeful, humanistic and sustainable way. A central tenet of our program is recognizing residents as peers in progress and providing a thoughtful balance of graded autonomy with supportive guidance and progressive responsibility.
We continuously solicit resident input on our curriculum to maximize the acquisition of competence and confidence. The medical education track and the Quality Improvement track are two such examples of educational offers that have grown from resident initiatives. The UT-StARR and TARDIS research tracks, for example, provide residents with funded research years while in residency. The mentorship you receive both professionally and personally will enable your success in training and beyond. We draw focus on health care equity, quality and safety. We embrace the imperative of diversity. On your journey, you will be surrounded by role models of academic excellence, compassion and professionalism. Not least among these will be your co-residents. Our residents truly embody the spirit of diversity and have travelled from all over the country and even the world to train here. I truly believe that it is this rich cultural milieu that enables our residents to become excellent clinicians and reflects in the quality of our consistently successful fellowship match. I am so proud of what we have built here, but you need not take my word for it. Click below to hear more about UTSW IM from our residents and see what makes Dallas a special place to train!
