Message from the Director

Internal Medicine Residency Program Director
Thank you for considering the Internal Medicine Residency Program at UT Southwestern.
As someone who completed residency here and later served as a Chief Resident, I know firsthand the impact this program can have on a physician's professional journey. It has been a privilege to return as Program Director and help guide the next generation of physicians through the same transformative experience.
When I reflect on what makes our residency program special, three words come to mind: Building, Belonging, and Becoming.
Building
Residency is more than a period of training. It is the foundation upon which you build your career. At UT Southwestern, you will develop the clinical knowledge, judgment, and skills needed to care for patients with confidence and compassion. Just as important, you will have opportunities to explore your interests, identify mentors, and chart a path toward your future, whether that leads to academic medicine, private practice, health care leadership, research, or subspecialty training.
Belonging
Our program is large, diverse but it never feels anonymous. You will find colleagues who challenge you, support you, and celebrate your successes, creating a sense of belonging that extends far beyond residency years.
Becoming
Residency is a time of remarkable growth. It is where developing physicians become skilled internists, trusted colleagues, and future leaders in medicine. The experiences you encounter here will test you, inspire you, and prepare you for whatever comes next. Our goal is not simply to help you complete residency, but to help you become the very best physician you can be.
If you are looking for a program that will challenge you, support you, and prepare you for a career of purpose and impact, I encourage you to learn more about UT Southwestern. We would be honored to be part of your journey.
