Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology

About Us:

A 12-month ACGME-accredited fellowship in Pediatric Cardiac Anesthesiology is offered by the UT Southwestern Medical Center. The fellowship is based at Children’s Health, Dallas Campus and will offer candidates a comprehensive experience in all aspects of the perioperative management of patients with congenital heart disease, from neonates to adults.

Children’s Health is a national leader in the area of pediatric cardiac surgery, with an open-heart caseload of greater than 300 cases per year. This includes the full spectrum of surgical treatment for congenital heart disease, including VADs, ECMO, and transplantation. The exposure will also account for over 800 catheterization procedures a year, and complex management of non-cardiac surgery for patients with congenital heart disease. The Heart Center is a self-contained unit within the main hospital and consists of three operating rooms, three cardiac catheterization labs, a cardiac MRI suite, an 18-bed cardiac ICU, and a cardiac step-down unit. The anesthesia team has 7 full-time pediatric cardiac anesthesiologists.
Applicants should have completed or be enrolled in an ACGME-accredited pediatric anesthesia fellowship. Alternative pathways, such as after an accredited adult cardiothoracic anesthesiology fellowship, will be considered on an individual basis.
