Chief Residents' Welcome

Dear Residency Applicants,

Thank you for your interest in UT Southwestern Pediatrics Residency Program! We are so excited that you are considering joining our residency program and family. We cannot wait to meet you, and in the meantime, we would love to share some of what we think makes our program so special.

Children's Medical Center is an extraordinary place that serves children of all backgrounds across North Texas and its surrounding regions—always continuing to grow. Our program offers exposure to bread-and-butter pediatric care for our community, as well as complex and rare diseases. Our hospital serves a large catchment area, allowing our residents to train in a high-volume setting and gain experience in high acuity pediatric care. UT Southwestern Pediatrics balances well-rounded training in both the inpatient and outpatient settings with uniquely individualized curricula and electives. We support numerous research, academic, global health, and advocacy opportunities. Graduates from our program leave prepared to enter a wide variety of jobs, from further training in fellowship to practicing in the community.

One aspect of our program that we take great pride in is the relationships our residents cultivate among each other. We have the privilege to work alongside compassionate, driven, hard-working residents who are not only committed to providing our patients with excellent care, but are also invested in supporting each other. Residents grow not only as physicians, but are able to build their families, explore the culture and food scene of Dallas, attend concerts and sporting events together, and much more. While growing as pediatricians, we are so fortunate to be simultaneously developing life-long friendships that surpass our time in residency. Many of our residents choose to make Dallas their permanent home, which highlights not only the strength of our residency culture but serves as a testament to the personal and professional opportunities Dallas has to offer.

As you explore our website and Instagram page, we encourage you to contact us with any questions. We know the application season can be as stressful and confusing as it is exciting—we are here to help however we can. We wish you the best of luck.

Sincerely,
Avery Haugen, Stephen Hemmerly, Heejin Lim, Maurine Sam
