Child Neurology Education

The Division of Child Neurology is committed to providing quality medical education for medical students, residents, and fellows. Housed within the Department of Pediatrics and working alongside the Department of Neurology, we offer a Pediatric Neurology Residency Program and a Neurodevelopmental Disabilities Residency Program, as well as fellowship training in numerous neurology subspecialties.
Medical Students
Medical students in their clinical rotations may rotate through the neurology clinics as well as join the neurology consult service in the hospital. Elective rotations are available in both settings.
Numerous opportunities are available for medical students to participate in child neurology research alongside residents and faculty.
Residents
UT Southwestern offers an ACGME-accredited child neurology training program, including a combined five-year categorical program with two years of ACGME-accredited pediatrics training and three years of ACGME-accredited child neurology training based at Children’s Medical Center Dallas/UT Southwestern Medical Center.
We also offer a categorical child neurology basic neuroscience research pathway (five-year program, with a one-year preliminary UT Southwestern pediatrics residency, one year of American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN)-approved research, followed by three years of a child neurology residency). For appropriate residency candidates, the Physician Scientist Training Program in Pediatrics or the Department of Neurology’s R25 Research Program is available.
