Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship Program Facilities
Our fellows train in a rich clinical environment that includes high-volume Level III neonatal care at Parkland Memorial Hospital, complex Level IV referral care at Children's Medical Center Dallas, cardiac intensive care, high-risk delivery-room management, maternal-fetal medicine, neonatal follow-up, and scholarly activity.
Parkland Memorial Hospital NICU
Parkland offers a high-volume Level III neonatal intensive care experience in a state-of-the-art NICU with 96 single-patient rooms. The unit admits approximately 1,100-1,200 neonates annually and provides broad exposure to prematurity, high-risk deliveries, neonatal resuscitation, complex medical conditions, and multidisciplinary care. Fellows lead care teams, teach residents and students, attend high-risk deliveries, manage admissions, and coordinate care for critically ill infants.
Children's Medical Center Dallas NICU
Children's Medical Center Dallas provides Level IV neonatal care in a 52-bed NICU that receives referrals from North Texas and surrounding regions. Fellows care for infants with complex medical, surgical, cardiac, and multisystem disease, including congenital anomalies, surgical neonatology, extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, transport calls, subspecialty consultation, and high-acuity referral medicine.
NeuroNICU Program
The NeuroNICU Program provides fellows with exposure to neonates with neurologic injury, seizures, brain malformations, hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy, prematurity-related brain injury, and other complex neurologic conditions. Fellows learn through multidisciplinary collaboration among neonatology, neurology, neuroradiology, developmental specialists, and related teams.
Resuscitation Program
The Resuscitation Program offers structured exposure to neonatal resuscitation, high-risk delivery room management, simulation-based learning, and continuous improvement in delivery room care. Fellows participate in high-risk deliveries and develop the skills needed to lead neonatal resuscitation teams.
THRIVE Clinic
The THRIVE Clinic provides longitudinal follow-up for NICU graduates and medically complex infants. Fellows gain experience in developmental follow-up, family-centered care, discharge transitions, and long-term outcomes after neonatal intensive care.
Cardiac Intensive Care Unit
The Cardiac Intensive Care Unit provides experience in the care of infants and children with complex cardiac disease. The unit is staffed collaboratively by cardiology, critical care, and cardiothoracic surgery teams. Fellows participate in the care of preoperative and postoperative cardiac patients and gain experience with complex cardiac physiology and multidisciplinary critical care.
Maternal-Fetal Medicine
The Maternal-Fetal Medicine experience allows fellows to participate in fetal diagnosis, antenatal counseling, perinatal planning, and high-risk maternal-fetal care. This strengthens fellows' understanding of the fetal-to-neonatal continuum.
Additional Training Sites
Fellows may also rotate through Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital Dallas and William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, providing additional exposure to neonatal-perinatal care across different clinical settings.
