About the Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program

UT Southwestern's Pediatric Critical Care Medicine Fellowship Program was established in the 1970s by Drs. Daniel L. Levin and Frances C. Morriss and is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME). The fellowship program is currently under the direction of Olivia Hoffman, M.D.

With the objective of providing excellent training in pediatric critical care medicine and preparing individuals to become future leaders in their field, our program has trained more than 100 physicians in the art and science of intensive care for critically ill infants and children. Many graduates have become academic leaders within the field, both in the United States and abroad.

Now one of the largest in the United States, our fellowship program is proud to train a complement of 16 fellows. Our recent graduates (since 2018) boast a 100% first time board pass rate.

Our fellows train primarily in our high volume and high acuity pediatric and cardiovascular intensive care units. In those units, they gain experience with the breadth of pediatric critical care medicine and collaborate with a large variety of pediatric subspecialties. Fellows benefit from our center's designation as a Level 1 Trauma Center and ELSO Center of Excellence – Platinum Level. They also care for complex congenital and acquired heart disease patients in our Heart Center, including robust exposure to mechanical circulatory support. Thanks to the experiences in both units, our fellows have ample procedure opportunities and clinical exposure, helping them gain the expertise needed to excel as intensivists upon graduation.
