Visiting Medical Students

Welcome visiting medical students! As you begin your academic and clinical exposure to the dynamic specialty of Anesthesiology, our department seeks to provide you with a broader perspective of the role of the anesthesiologist in modern medical care. Please find the appropriate materials and direction needed prior to your rotation within our department.

Check In

Point of Contact: Please be sure to meet with our Medical Student Program Coordinator on your scheduled day of arrival.

Start Time: Check In begins at 7 a.m. on your scheduled day of arrival.

Parking: Zale-Lipshy Pavilion – University Hospital, 5151 Harry Hines Blvd. Dallas, Texas 75390 (Directions)

Valet parking is available to you upon arrival and will be validated at the end of your visit.

Subsequent parking on campus will need to be arranged at your discretion, student parking is available in Garage 3 Lot 4 and is offered at a monthly rate of $10. To register your vehicle for this permit, please sign and submit the Parking Service Application to our Medical Student Coordinator.

When navigating from the Zale-Lipshy University Hospital, walk through the Hospital to the Charles Sprague Building passing double-wood doors. Upon entrance to the lobby, take the elevator to the second floor. Exiting the elevator, turn right and proceed to the last door on the right CS2.538.

Should any unforeseen events occur that make it impossible for you to be here, please inform the Medical Student Program Coordinator as soon as possible.

The following items are required for clearance on behalf of the registrar’s office. Should you have any questions, please reach out to our medical student program coordinator.

*Indicates documents which cannot be uploaded in VSAS and require emailed proof of receipt to our Medical Student Program Coordinator):

  • Attestation letter attesting that you are in good standing to also include negative results of drug screen and background check, which must be in attestation format from your home school. (Please note that the Registrar's office will not accept actual drug screen/background check results.)
  • ACLS/BLS certificate*
  • Mask Fit Test*
  • Proof of malpractice insurance
  • Personal health insurance
  • UTSW HIPAA training certificate (link in welcome letter)
  • UT Southwestern Essential Functions Form
  • Student Code of Conduct Form
  • Copy of Driver’s License or US Passport*
  • Rotation Payment
