Health Equity Track

Community and Population Healthcare (CPH) Track

The Community and Population Healthcare Track is a subset of 15 interns within the main Internal Medicine Residency program. The CPH residents are training and developing skills to address and reduce health disparities in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex and beyond. THey are dedicated to serving the needs of diverse and underserved populations. We envision welcoming up to 15 residents per year, totaling 45 residents over three years. During the Quality Improvement Boot Camp, residents learned and practiced improvement methodology and tools, appying them to real-world projects that will be submitted for the annual Seldin Symposium. Additionally, these courses provide out residents with the oppurtunity to engage in scholarly activities, such as presenting abstracts, posters, and publishing manuscripts upon their residency.

Resident Spotlight: Tyler Benjamin

Tyler Benjamin, MD

"As part of the first Health Equity Track-Residents program, The QI curriculum is a strong foundation for developing skills in quality improvement. You can tell a tremendous amount of work went into it, it’s well-structured and thoughtfully designed. As more residents join from different backgrounds and levels of experience, I think there’s an opportunity to further individualize the learning to make it even more impactful. I’ve been really impressed by the breadth of experiences available through our various clinical sites from REDB and PRIME Clinic to the Diabetes Clinic. Each has provided a unique perspective on patient care, particularly in managing chronic conditions like diabetes, which remains one of the most prevalent diseases in the country. Through QI, I hope to create systems that better recognize and serve those patients."
