Our Impact
The Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, directed by Perrin C. White, M.D., provides inpatient and outpatient clinical services to Children's Medical Center Dallas and the broader community in the areas of general endocrinology, diabetes, and obesity. The Division's catchment area extends north and east into Oklahoma, Louisiana, and southwestern Arkansas; west to the Mid-Cities and occasionally into Fort Worth; and south as far as Houston.
- General endocrinology, including growth, thyroid, puberty, pituitary, and adrenal problems, directed by Soumya Adhikari, M.D.
- Diabetes, directed by Abha Choudhary, M.D.
- Obesity, including the Center for Obesity and its Consequences in Health (COACH), directed by Amanda Shaw, M.D.
Additionally, approximately a third of our outpatient encounters take place at the Children's Health Plano campus, with 10% to 15% of inpatient activities occurring there. Accordingly, we now have a Medical Director for the Plano campus, with the role currently filled by Dr. Choudhary.

- Community Engagement
Community Engagement
Our Division takes pride in serving beyond the clinical setting to improve the lives of children with endocrine disorders throughout North Texas.
Our staff serve as medical directors and attending physicians, providing direct physician supervision at Camp Sweeney, one of the largest and most established residential diabetes camps in the country.
Our faculty also serve on the board of the local chapter of Breakthrough T1D (formerly JDRF), collaborating to advance advocacy, screening, and access to research for children and families living with Type 1 diabetes.
We are proud participants in community-centered initiatives such as the Diabetes Legends Basketball Classic, hosted by the team from DiabeticsDoingThings.com that promotes awareness and community empowerment through sports.
School Nurse Diabetes Education Conferences
Recognizing the vital role that school nurses play in the daily care of children with diabetes, our team hosts multiple education conferences each year tailored specifically for school health personnel from across the Dallas–Fort Worth Metroplex.
These events focus on up-to-date diabetes management strategies, practical tools for school-based care, and case-based learning that bridges clinical excellence with real-world implementation. Our goal is to equip school nurses with the knowledge and confidence needed to support safe and effective diabetes care for students throughout the academic year.
