Dallas is home to a large, diverse population of patients. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, 41.7% of the city of Dallas’ inhabitants in 2019 identified as Hispanic or Latino, 24.3% as African American, and 3.4% as Asian.

Growing up in NYC, Dallas was a huge culture shock. Two years in, I believe it was one of the best decisions I made. What I love the most about our department is its investment in our faculty and their growth. As a result, our department is full of vibrant faculty coming from different backgrounds, each providing their own unique perspective to the practice of medicine.

Committee Goals

Community Outreach
Participate in community outreach with the establishment of mentorship programs with local high schools, colleges, and medical schools.

Serving Locally
Partner with key local organizations committed to serving our community.

Curriculum
Establish a curriculum that includes discussions surrounding cultural humility and disparities in health outcomes in vulnerable populations. Our curriculum also includes education in cultural competency and implicit bias.

Mentorship
Facilitate mentorship between faculty and residents to retain graduates in academic medicine and leadership.
