With a team who encompass a wide variety of life experiences, skillsets, and viewpoints, we are able to provide culturally competent care, work to decrease health disparities, and develop innovative ideas to address the needs of our patients and community.

Whatever characteristics make you unique, we are committed to help you thrive.

Meet Some of Our Faculty & Learners

Kurt Kleinschmidt, M.D.

"The Emergency Medicine program is big and great. Faculty and residents can be involved in so many things. Our vast and diverse patient population provides so many opportunities for great and interesting patient care. The large residency and many fellowships provide great teaching opportunities. This is unquestionably one of the few great places to practice EM to the fullest extent possible.”

Kurt Kleinschmidt, M.D.Professor
Joby Thoppil, M.D.

Growing up in NYC, Dallas was a huge culture shock. Two years in, I believe it was one of the best decisions I made. What I love the most about our department is its investment in our faculty and their growth. As a result, our department is full of vibrant faculty coming from different backgrounds, each providing their own unique perspective to the practice of medicine.

Committee Goals

Community Outreach
Participate in community outreach with the establishment of mentorship programs with local high schools, colleges, and medical schools.

Serving Locally
Partner with key local organizations committed to serving our community.

Curriculum
Establish a curriculum that includes discussions surrounding cultural humility and disparities in health outcomes in vulnerable populations. Our curriculum also includes education in cultural competency and implicit bias.

Mentorship
Facilitate mentorship between faculty and residents to retain graduates in academic medicine and leadership.

“As members of our departmental family, we recognize that our collective strength and sense of unity come from the unconditional respect and celebration of our unique talent and character. We are at our best when we encourage community, diversity of thought, and conversation, so that every individual in our department may feel welcomed, empowered, and limitless.”
