General Information:
To apply for our program, please submit the following documents through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS):
- Current curriculum vitae
- Personal statement
- Dean’s letter
- Three letters of recommendation (four letters for international medical graduates; at least one must be from the United States)
- Transcript of the medical school record, certified by the medical school
- Recent photo
- Official record of board scores (USMLE/COMLEX)
- Valid ECFMG certificate if graduating from a medical school outside the United States or Canada
Frequently Asked Questions:
- Do you accept or sponsor training visas?
No. All applicants must be either a U.S. citizen or have a valid green card. At this time, the Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Management does not sponsor or accept any type of training visas.
- Do you offer on-site visits?
Yes. Applicants are welcome to visit our hospitals and clinics to gain a better sense of our clinical footprint and the breadth of care we provide.
- When do you review applications?
We review applications from late September to the end of the interview season.
- How do I find out if I am selected for an interview?
Once a complete application is received, it is reviewed by the recruitment committee. The Program Coordinator will then email applicants with the committee’s decision.
- How long does it take to review my application?
All applications are reviewed by the recruitment committee, with three faculty members assigned to evaluate each. Once feedback is received, the committee determines whether to extend an interview. All applicants are notified by email once a final decision has been made.
- Does the department have a USMLE/COMLEX cut-off score?
No. Our department does not use a USMLE/COMLEX cut-off score.
- When do you begin interviews?
All interviews will be conducted virtually. Exact dates are provided once an interview is offered, with scheduling taking place during interview season (November–January).
- How many PGY-1 positions do you have?
20
- How many PGY-2/CA-1 positions do you have?
This year we are offering 0 “advanced” and 3-4 “reserved” positions.
- Is there an application deadline?
We do not have a strict deadline, as applicants are reviewed on a rolling basis. However, due to the high volume of submissions, we encourage applicants to apply as early as possible.
- Do residents participate in research?
Yes. All residents participate in a scholarly activity project. Advanced research opportunities may also be available.
- What fellowships are offered?
We are one of the few programs offering fellowships in every ACGME-approved subspecialty. Positions include Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, Critical Care Medicine, Obstetrical Anesthesiology, Chronic Pain Medicine, Pediatric Anesthesiology, Regional and Acute Pain Medicine, Pediatric Cardiothoracic Anesthesiology, Neuroanesthesia, and Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine.
- How many residents pursue fellowships?
More than half of our graduating class will continue their training in fellowships, both within our institution and at external programs.
- Do residents get to participate in mission trips?
Yes. Residents may participate in mission trips, and our program is currently developing a global health elective.
