Christopher Madden, M.D.
Vice President and Senior Executive Officer, UT Southwestern Medical Group
Christopher Madden, M.D., was named Senior Executive Officer in September 2024 after being appointed Vice President and Chief Operations Officer, UT Southwestern Medical Group in July 2019. He is responsible for the Medical Group’s clinical practice and clinical administrative functions at all sites of service, including UT Southwestern hospitals and clinics, Parkland Health, Children’s Health, the Veterans Affairs North Texas Health Care System, and all UTSW clinically affiliated partners.
Dr. Madden guides the overall direction of the Medical Group, including patient care, the development of strategic and marketing priorities, physician contracting, and financial performance. Dr. Madden works with Clinical Department Chairs to ensure that clinical activities at all sites of service are synergistic with UT Southwestern missions and priorities. In addition, Dr. Madden continues to build relationships with our affiliated partner institutions.
He previously served as Clinical Executive Director of Neurosciences, the Peter O’Donnell Jr. Brain Institute, as Chief Medical Officer for Parkland Health, and as Associate Vice President for Parkland Affairs.
Dr. Madden is a Professor in the Department of Neurological Surgery and completed his residency at Ohio State University and a fellowship in skull base surgery at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, England. He earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio.

Dai Chung, M.D.
Chief Medical Officer for the Joint Pediatric Enterprise
Holder of the Helen J. and Robert S. Strauss and Diana K. and Richard C. Strauss Chair in Pediatric Surgery
Dai Chung, M.D., is Chief Medical Officer for the Children’s Health and UT Southwestern Medical Center Joint Pediatric Enterprise. In this role, Dr. Chung leads strategies to strengthen initiatives, patient care operations, research, and education efforts related to the two institutions. The JPE was formed in 2019 to advance the delivery of care for pediatric patients across North Texas.
Dr. Chung joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2018 and is a Professor of Surgery. He specializes in pediatric solid tumors, minimally invasive surgery, and pediatric burns. Dr. Chung also has done significant research in developing novel targeted therapeutics against neuroblastoma, has published more than 130 academic articles, and is a sought-after academic speaker.
Dr. Chung earned his medical degree at the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, where he also completed an internship and a residency in surgery.

Carlos Girod, M.D.
Associate Vice President, Parkland Health & Hospital System Affairs

Carlos Girod, M.D., was named Associate Vice President, Parkland Health & Hospital System Affairs in March 2016. He is the primary liaison between Parkland and UT Southwestern Medical Center. He previously served as Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for Parkland Health & Hospital System.
A pulmonologist and highly regarded clinician, Dr. Girod graduated from the University of Pennsylvania before earning his medical degree from the University of Puerto Rico School of Medicine in San Juan. He completed his internship and residency at UT Southwestern, followed by a clinical fellowship at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, and a research fellowship at the Denver Veterans Administration Medical Center. He joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 1997.

Maeve Sheehan, M.D., M.B.A.
Associate Vice President of the Pediatric Group Practice
Maeve Sheehan, M.D., M.B.A., has served as Associate Vice President of the Pediatric Group Practice since August 2024. In her role, she oversees clinical programming and operations to ensure care goals are met and collaborates with other executive leaders to advance Pediatric Group growth strategies. She additionally serves as the Physician Executive for the forthcoming pediatric campus with Children’s Health. In this role, she collaborates with UT Southwestern division chiefs, Academic Affairs leadership, and counterparts at Children’s Health to facilitate new clinical, educational, and research programs for the children’s hospital and pediatric practice.
Dr. Sheehan joined the UT Southwestern faculty in 2002 and is a Professor of Pediatrics. She has additionally held various progressive leadership roles throughout her 20-plus years at UT Southwestern, including Chief of Inpatient Services, Chief Medical Officer at Children’s Medical Center Dallas, and Vice Chair for Clinical Operations in the Department of Pediatrics.
Dr. Sheehan holds a medical degree from the University College Dublin. She received additional training in pediatrics and neonatology in Ireland before completing a pediatric and adolescent medicine residency at the Cleveland Clinic. She then gained advanced training through a pediatric critical care fellowship at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. She is a Fellow of the American Academy of Pediatrics.
She holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas.

Cameron W. Slocum, M.B.A.
Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Academic Affairs and the UT Southwestern Medical Group
As Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Academic Affairs and the UT Southwestern Medical Group, Mr. Slocum focuses on administrative, strategic, and financial functions to support UT Southwestern’s academic missions. His reporting relationships to the leadership of Academic, Health System, and Business Affairs allow him to improve day-to-day operating activities.
He joined UT Southwestern Medical Center in September 2014. Previously, Mr. Slocum held the position of Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for the University of Texas Medical Branch Schools of Medicine, Nursing, and Health Professions, and the Graduate School, and also worked as Executive Director of the Faculty Group Practice Plan during his 16-year tenure with UTMB.
He is the author of “UTMB: From Disaster Planning to Long-Term Recovery,” which appeared in the Domestic Preparedness Journal. In 2012, Mr. Slocum was honored by the Houston Business Journal with a “40 under 40” award, which recognizes the top 40 young professionals in the Houston region. He is an active leader in the Association of American Medical Colleges’ Group on Business Affairs and served as National Chair in 2014 and 2015.
Mr. Slocum earned a bachelor’s degree in finance from Texas A&M University and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Houston – Clear Lake.

Stephanie Swanson, M.H.S.
Associate Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Medical Group
Stephanie Swanson, M.H.S., is Associate Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of the Medical Group. In her role, Ms. Swanson manages all financial strategy operations for the Medical Group, oversees the budgets of all Health System Affairs divisions, and collaborates on service agreements with partner institutions. Additionally, her partnership with other Health System executives enables leaders to make thoughtful, data-driven decisions about financial approaches, ensuring both the stability of the clinical enterprise and that UT Southwestern can continue to have the assets needed to improve patient outcomes.
Ms. Swanson is a highly accomplished health care executive with more than 20 years of leadership experience at top-ranked academic medical centers and private health care organizations where she has successfully driven sustainable financial growth and operational excellence. Ms. Swanson most recently served as vice president of market integration and development at Solis Mammography, where she led national-level initiatives in mergers and acquisitions, joint venture governance, and operational integration. Prior to joining Solis, from 2012 to 2022, she held various leadership roles at UT Southwestern, including Director of Finance for the Medical Group and Clinical Department Administrator for Anesthesiology & Pain Management.
Ms. Swanson holds a Master of Health Science in Health Finance and Management from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health. She is a Fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Certified Medical Practice Executive, and maintains a Green Belt in Lean Sigma process improvement.
