Ph.D. in Medical Physics Graduate Program

The Ph.D. in Medical Physics Graduate Program, directed by You Zhang, Ph.D., is led primarily by faculty from the Division of Medical Physics and Engineering within the Department of Radiation Oncology. The program brings together medical physics faculty, dosimetrists, postdoctoral researchers, research and service engineers, and computer programmers. Faculty from the Division of Clinical Radiation Oncology and the Section of Molecular Medicine also contribute specialized coursework and training in areas relevant to medical physics.

The program, accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Educational Programs (CAMPEP), enables graduates to apply for CAMPEP-accredited residency programs and pursue board certification through the American Board of Radiology.

The program prepares students for careers in therapeutic medical physics with a focus on radiation oncology. During the first two years, students complete a rigorous curriculum before transitioning to faculty-mentored research leading to the Ph.D. Upon graduation, students receive a Ph.D. in Medical Physics and a certificate verifying successful completion of CAMPEP-required training. Graduates are well prepared to pursue careers in academic, clinical, or industry settings.
