Geriatric Psychiatry Division
The Division of Geriatric Psychiatry integrates clinical expertise with interdisciplinary collaboration and research innovation to offer the highest quality care for older adults across a range of diagnoses and circumstances.
Patient Care
Our multiple care sites treat a diversity of diagnoses and patient populations across all continuums of care in settings such as inpatient and outpatient care, nursing home consultation and visits (e.g., Community Living Center, a VA nursing home in Bonham), consultation-liaison services (e.g., at the Dallas VA Medical Center), neuropsychology clinic, and evidence-based psychotherapy. We have a strong multidisciplinary, team-based approach to caring for our patients.
Research
Our faculty research is focusing on improving cognition in older adults with or at risk for dementia through brain stimulation, with cognitive, functional, and pharmacological modalities, among other areas of study. Fellows explore a self-selected area of clinical or basic research with our expert faculty.
Faculty
Our geriatric psychiatry team has specialized training in meeting the unique needs of older patients across the spectrum of emotional, mental, social, and physical health and with treatments addressing these needs to relieve symptoms and help our patients remain independent. Our fellowship supervisors have all completed a geriatric psychiatry fellowship and are experts in the care of geriatric patients.
Education & Training
Our fellows are part of the large educational experience at UT Southwestern, with all the opportunities afforded by a large, dynamic medical center and receive broad, comprehensive, and evidence-based training in geriatric psychiatry. We also offer combined training in neurology and psychiatry for residents.
