Ellen O’Connell, M.D.

Division Chief, General Emergency Medicine

The Division of General Emergency Medicine is composed of the largest group of faculty, Advanced Practice Providers, and staff within the Department of Emergency Medicine.

All members of General Emergency Medicine share common goals of patient-first clinical service, communications, and career development. We continue to pursue the missions of clinical care, education, and research through active involvement on many departmental committees and workgroups, active scholarly activity, and a robust slate of learning opportunities for students, APPs, residents, and faculty.

Our Work

Our division has multiple areas of interest, such as clinical ultrasound, simulation-based medical education, medical informatics, observation medicine, and critical care.

We have over 10 research faculty with various levels of funding, and all of our clinical work is performed at multiple sites including William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Parkland Hospital, Children’s Medical Center Dallas, and the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

Our Faculty

Our members are involved regionally and nationally through organized emergency medicine and its subspecialties at multiple levels from editorial journal review through leadership positions.
