UT Southwestern’s Special Grant Incentive (SGI) program encourages UT Southwestern faculty members to further pursue federal awards to advance science and benefit our patients.

The Collaborative Research Grant Incentive (CRGI) provides incentive payments to UT Southwestern faculty members who are the PIs and Co-PIs/MPIs or Project Leaders of NIH program projects (P), research cooperative agreements (U), or collaborative program for multidisciplinary teams (RM) grants.

Delayed by the pandemic, the 15th Annual UT Southwestern Academy of Teachers (SWAT) Reception and Awards ceremony was held earlier this year to honor six UTSW faculty members for teaching excellence in 2020. In addition, The UT Southwestern Academy of Teachers (SWAT) recently welcomed seven outstanding educators to its latest class of inductees. SWAT members are recognized as educators who strive to provide an academic and organizational environment that fosters excellence in teaching at all levels, rewards superb teachers, stimulates innovation in education, and promotes scholarship in education.

Daniela Nicastro, Ph.D., Professor of Cell Biology, helped plan and direct UT Southwestern’s Cryo-Electron Microscopy Facility, which opened in 2016 with microscopes that can accomplish such feats. At 4 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28, she will give a virtual talk titled “Cryo-Electron Microscopy: Opening a Frosty Window into Cells” as the next speaker in the President’s Lecture Series. New chair of ophthalmology, J. William Harbour, is the new Chair of Ophthalmology, succeeding Professor Emeritus James McCulley, M.D., who led the Department for 40 years before retiring June 30 as Chair.

The UT Southwestern SACNAS chapter received a 2021 SACNAS Chapter Award in recognition of its dedication to science, education, and professional development. UTSW was one of seven chapters honored with the national award.
