Program Director's Message

Dr. Emily Buffkin

Emily Bufkin M.D.

Internal Medicine - Pediatrics Residency Program Director

Thank you for your interest in the Combined Internal Medicine-Pediatrics (Med-Peds) Residency Program. We’re excited about training the next generation of well-rounded physicians. In the rapidly evolving world of medicine, the skills of Med-Peds doctors are more essential than ever. We’re seeking residents from an array of backgrounds who will join us on this journey—to radically improve the way care is designed, coordinated, and delivered as members of an outstanding program with strong collaborations with the national Med-Peds community.

You’ll be part of a close-knit Med-Peds community that builds on the foundation of two exceptional, well-established categorical training programs in internal medicine and pediatrics. Residents have full access to the educational opportunities in each categorical program, including:

  • Research
  • Medical Education
  • Global Health
  • Quality Improvement
  • Advocacy

Through clinical training at three world-class institutions—William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, Parkland Memorial Hospital, and Children’s Medical Center Dallas—residents develop the skills needed to provide the highest-quality, compassionate care to a diverse patient population throughout the lifespan.

We don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all curriculum. With UT Southwestern’s rich training environment and a faculty dedicated to supporting the unique interests and passions of each resident, the training options are limitless. Whether your career goals include primary care, hospitalist medicine, global health, transitional medicine, or subspecialty care from birth to geriatrics, our program is well-equipped to set you on the right path.

We look forward to training and guiding tomorrow’s Med-Peds physicians, scholars, advocates, educators, and leaders, and we hope you’ll join us.
