Neonatal–Perinatal Medicine Education
The Division of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine provides many educational opportunities for medical students and pediatric residents, as well as fully accredited fellowship programs.

Medical Students
Third-Year Medical Students
During the pediatrics rotation, third-year medical students spend time in the Newborn Nursery at Parkland Memorial Hospital. Information regarding this rotation can be found on the third-year curriculum site.
Fourth-Year Medical Students
Fourth-year medical students may elect to spend time in the Newborn Nursery or the Neonatal Intensive Care Units at Parkland Memorial Hospital and Children’s Medical Center. Information regarding this elective can be found on the fourth-year curriculum site.
Residents
Residents Gain Diverse Experience
The Pediatric Residency Program introduces residents to neonatal-perinatal medicine services at Parkland Memorial Hospital, with elective opportunities available at Children's throughout the three-year program.
Elective rotations are also available to residents from other programs, with opportunities in settings such as:
- Children’s Neonatal Intensive Care Unit
- Parkland Neonatal Intensive Care Unit

Fellows
Our Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine Fellowship focuses on improving the health of neonates through leadership, research, and excellence in patient care.
The Neonatal Neurocritical Care Fellowship is a one-year program designed to train child neurologists and neonatologists who are interested in advanced training in neonatal neurology. The program is one of five offered nationwide.
