Jatin (Jay) Vyas, M.D., Ph.D.

Jatin (Jay) Vyas, M.D., Ph.D., is a physician-scientist and academic leader who serves as Professor of Medicine at Columbia University Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, as well as Associate Dean for Academic Innovation and Director of Physician-Scientist Programs in the Vagelos Institute for Biomedical Research Education.

Born in Montreal and raised in Houston, Dr. Vyas earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Texas at Austin, followed by both his medical degree and his doctorate in immunology through the Medical Scientist Training Program at Baylor College of Medicine, where his doctoral research focused on pathogen detection mechanisms within the immune system.

Before joining Columbia in 2024, Dr. Vyas served as a Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and a physician in the Department of Medicine at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). He also led the MGH Department of Medicine Residency Program from 2014–2023, the largest training program of its kind in Massachusetts, and received the 2022 MassGeneral Brigham Outstanding Program Director Award and the 2025 AAIM/APDIM Distinguished University Medical Educator Award.

His scientific career spans influential work in infectious diseases, immunology, and host‑pathogen interactions, including foundational research on dendritic cell biology and autophagy. He has published extensively and is an elected member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation (ASCI).

A committed mentor and advocate for next‑generation physician‑scientists, Dr. Vyas continues to build programs that integrate clinical care with cutting‑edge scientific discovery.
