Hoping to spark students’ interest in academic medicine as a career, UT Southwestern recently held its 57th annual Medical Student Research Forum to encourage future doctors to participate in the world of research.

About 400 people gathered for the second annual Leaders in Clinical Excellence Awards, established to honor the exceptional contributions of clinical faculty to the care of our patients, to the education of the next generation of health care professionals, and to UT Southwestern overall.

19 UTSW researchers make ‘most highly cited’ list; awards for Mendell, Schmid

UT Southwestern’s newest Leaders in Clinical Excellence Awardees this year represent the best of the medical center’s care.

UT Southwestern celebrated a record achievement on April 27 when four faculty members – Drs. Sean Morrison, Kim Orth, Michael Rosen, and Sandra Schmid – were elected to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS), one of the highest honors for American scientists. The accomplishment marks the first time more than two UTSW scientists have been elected to NAS in a single year. UT Southwestern now has 25 NAS members, including seven women, and the highest overall total of any institution in Texas.

The Advanced Imaging Research Center at UT Southwestern acquired one of these 24-ton giants of technology in 2007 to advance the Center’s work with magnetic MRIs and uphold the promise that higher quality imaging brings to science.

Graduate student Heankel Lyons’ research on disordered regions of proteins led to her receipt of the Nominata Award, the highest honor from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences.
