Letter to Applicants from the Chair

Dear Applicant,

We are pleased that you are interested in our Orthopaedic Residency Program.

The Orthopaedic program at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical School is a five-year training program with six residents in each year. The intern year at UT Southwestern Medical Center includes three months on a variety of orthopaedic rotations and the remainder of the year is used to fulfill the ACGME requirements with rotations on the vascular surgery service, ICU, neurosurgery, trauma surgery, and others.

The teaching hospitals of the program include UT Southwestern University Hospitals (St. Paul and Zale Lipshy), Parkland Health and Hospital Systems, Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children, Children's Medical Center Dallas, and the Dallas Veterans Affairs Medical Center.

The program provides extensive exposure and experience in all areas of orthopaedics, including orthopaedic trauma, reconstructive and joint replacement surgery, hand and upper extremity surgery, pediatric orthopaedics, spine surgery, sports medicine, and foot and ankle surgery.

The program currently has 24 resident physicians and six interns. The resident's excellent OITE scores and their competitiveness for outstanding fellowships attests to the quality of our residents, and the breadth of the orthopaedic experience they receive while at UT Southwestern.

Interested individuals are invited to apply during their fourth year of medical school via the ERAS program. For further assistance, please contact our Residency Program Coordinator, Menyon Menefee, via email or telephone at 214-648-0253.

I hope this information concerning the program is of value to you. All applications are reviewed by the Residency Selection Committee, and qualified applicants will be invited by email to interview in late November or early December.

Sincerely,

Joseph Borrelli, Jr., MD
Professor and Chair
