Eligibility and Admissions

Eligible candidates must meet NIH criteria as a U.S. citizen or permanent resident and must have matched to UTSW Internal Medicine or Pediatrics Residency Programs. Given that the purpose of the R38 funding mechanism is to stimulate recruitment and retention of M.D. physicians into a research career, not all candidates will have had experience in research. However, eligible candidates must demonstrate a clear desire to pursue a research career path, and this intention must be outlined in a letter from their Residency Program Director. For candidates with more research experience and training, eligibility criteria will also include a previously demonstrated commitment to research endeavors and a cogent early plan for career development in research.
