What is Wiper Malware

Abstract Warning of a detected malware program

Wiper malware is an attack used to disrupt an organization by permanently overwriting and destroying data. Cybercriminals may also use wipers to erase evidence of their attack. The common way for an organization to encounter a wiper is through a malicious email message.

  • Review departmental business continuity plans and operational contingency procedures to be prepared for a disruption.
  • Back up your data to a secure location such as a secure network drive or an approved external device.
  • Be cautious when opening documents within emails or clicking links.
  • Use multifactor authentication wherever possible.
  • Enable auto-updates for your antivirus and other software.
