Terms and Definitions

  • Resident/Non-Resident (Statutory) Tuition – Set by the Texas Legislature under the Texas Education Code
  • Designated Tuition – University-approved tuition (via Board of Regents) that supports academic operations and the institution’s mission
  • Program-Specific Designated Tuition – Additional charge for enhanced services and programming within a specific academic program
  • Medical Service Fee – Supports operation, maintenance, and improvements of the Student Health and Wellness Center
  • Computer Fee – Covers costs for student technology access, including computer labs, online platforms, networks, and digital learning tools
  • Student Service Fee – Funds student services and activities such as health services, recreation, cultural programs, lectures, and student government, including support for the Bryan Williams, M.D. Student Center.
  • Medical Insurance – UT System requires all students at health-related institutions to maintain valid major medical insurance; approved waiver is required each semester to opt out of the student plan even if covered by UTSW employment insurance
