Requirements for Admission in Master of Clinical Nutrition-Nutrition Science

The Admissions Committee of the Department of Clinical Nutrition determines the admissibility of an applicant into the Program in accordance with the quality of his or her credentials. The Department works in cooperation with the Office of Enrollment Services of UT Southwestern Medical Center and with the approval of the Dean of UT Southwestern School of Health Professions. Admission requirements are:

  1. Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited institution prior to matriculation.
  2. Earn a recommended GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale.
  3. Complete the required prerequisite courses.
  4. Official transcripts from all schools attended. Read additional requirements for international applicants.
  5. Complete and submit an online application by April 15.
  6. Three letters of recommendation.
  7. Personal interview.
  8. Personal statement of career goals and description of work experience.

International Applicants

Foreign transcripts must be evaluated by a transcript evaluation agency; TOEFL, or IELTS is required.

Acceptance Decisions

After reviewing applications, the Admissions Committee selects the group of candidates to be interviewed. If you’re selected, we’ll contact you to arrange a convenient interview time. During your visit, you’ll tour the facilities and meet with faculty.

After the interviews, our admissions committee will make its final decision and let you know by May.

If you are accepted to the program, you’ll need to provide these items before courses begin:

  • Official transcripts from all schools attended. Read additional requirements for international applicants.
  • Completion of all the pre-requisite courses.
  • Background check prior to enrollment.
  • Drug screen.
  • Immunization records to Student Health Services, in compliance with state requirements.
