About the Program
The Advanced Adult Structural Interventional Fellowship is a one-year program for graduates of an interventional cardiology fellowship. Offering one position annually, the program provides specialized training in structural and valvular heart disease under the guidance of nationally recognized experts.
Fellows receive hands-on experience in procedures such as transcatheter aortic valve replacement; mitral and tricuspid interventions, including edge-to-edge repair and valve replacement; transcatheter pulmonic valve replacement; PFO, ASD, and VSD closures; paravalvular leak closures; and left atrial appendage occlusion. Training is primarily based at William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital, with additional rotations at Parkland Memorial Hospital and the Dallas VA Medical Center. UT Southwestern performs more than 400 structural heart procedures annually.
The fellowship emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration through weekly valve conferences with cardiac surgery, imaging, anesthesia, and adult congenital interventional cardiology teams—an approach carried into the catheterization lab and operating rooms. Fellows also participate in longitudinal patient care, quality improvement initiatives, and research opportunities.
