If during this process, you come into technical issues, questions on format, content, or setup please contact our research administrative office. We're happy to help troubleshoot before any approaching deadlines.

  • Step 1 - eRA Commons Account

Ensure you have an eRA Commons Account

    • An active eRA Commons ID is required to create a SciENcv biosketch
    • If you already have an eRA Commons account, proceed to step 2
    • If you do not have an account, please email the anesthesiology research office anesthesiologyresearchoffice@utsw.edu
      • Be sure to include your full name and employee ID (responses are typically answered within 24 hours)
  • Step 2 - eRA Commons profile

Log In and complete your eRA Commons Profile, ensuring the information accurate feeds directly into SciENcv

    • Login to eRA Commons
    • Complete and review your personal profile including:
      • Name format
      • Degree information
      • Institutional affiliation
  • Step 3 - ORCID ID

Obtain an ORCID ID, a requirement for the NIH Common Forms

    • If you already have an ORCID ID, ensure it is active and accurate
    • If you do not have an ORCID ID, register here
    • Link your ORCID ID to your eRA Commons profile when prompted
  • Step 4 - Finalizing Data

Before creating your biosketch, confirm your name, appointments, and affiliations to ensure consistency across all systems

    • Name format matches eRA Commons and ORCID
    • Institutional affiliation is accurate
    • Academic appointments and titles are current
  • Step 5 - NIH BioSketch

Create your NIH biosketch in SciENcv, most of the data will pull from eRA Commons and ORCID reducing manual entry

    • Log in to SciENcv via NCBI
    • Select create new document
    • Choose NIH Biosketch Common Form
    • Follow the guided sections to enter
      • Personal statement
      • Positions and honors
      • Contributions to science
      • Scholastic performance (if applicable)
