Common Form guidance, Faculty quick-start guidelines:
Before you begin creating or upating your biosketch or other support, there are a few required steps. Completing these first will save time and prevent submission delays. Note: NIH has an announcement regarding Common Forms implementation and guidace for Biographical Sketches and Current and Pending (Other) Support dociments.
If during this process, you come into technical issues, questions on format, content, or setup please contact our research administrative office. We're happy to help troubleshoot before any approaching deadlines.
- Step 1 - eRA Commons Account
Ensure you have an eRA Commons Account
- An active eRA Commons ID is required to create a SciENcv biosketch
- If you already have an eRA Commons account, proceed to step 2
- If you do not have an account, please email the anesthesiology research office anesthesiologyresearchoffice@utsw.edu
- Be sure to include your full name and employee ID (responses are typically answered within 24 hours)
- Step 2 - eRA Commons profile
Log In and complete your eRA Commons Profile, ensuring the information accurate feeds directly into SciENcv
- Login to eRA Commons
- Complete and review your personal profile including:
- Name format
- Degree information
- Institutional affiliation
- Step 3 - ORCID ID
Obtain an ORCID ID, a requirement for the NIH Common Forms
- If you already have an ORCID ID, ensure it is active and accurate
- If you do not have an ORCID ID, register here
- Link your ORCID ID to your eRA Commons profile when prompted
- Step 4 - Finalizing Data
Before creating your biosketch, confirm your name, appointments, and affiliations to ensure consistency across all systems
- Name format matches eRA Commons and ORCID
- Institutional affiliation is accurate
- Academic appointments and titles are current
- Step 5 - NIH BioSketch
Create your NIH biosketch in SciENcv, most of the data will pull from eRA Commons and ORCID reducing manual entry
- Log in to SciENcv via NCBI
- Select create new document
- Choose NIH Biosketch Common Form
- Follow the guided sections to enter
- Personal statement
- Positions and honors
- Contributions to science
- Scholastic performance (if applicable)
