Now internationally recognized as a leading cerebrovascular surgeon, Dr. Batjer is the 2020 recipient of the Harvey Cushing Medal, the highest honor bestowed by the American Association of Neurological Surgeons (AANS). Established in 1976 and given annually, the award recognizes AANS members for distinguished service and accomplishments in the field of neurosurgery.

Mr. Barton immediately signed up for consideration as a potential plasma donor. People who have recovered from COVID-19 have built up levels of antibodies to defend the body against the SARS-CoV-2 virus. On April 13, after tests on him came back negative for active COVID-19, Mr. Barton became one of the first convalescent plasma donors in North Texas.

UT Southwestern researchers using advanced microscopes have shown how a lipid that regulates development of the heart, nerves, and immune system is exported out of cells so it can do its job. Knowing the structure of this fat molecule bound to its transporter protein holds promise for someday improving treatments for lung cancer, multiple sclerosis (MS), and other diseases, according to Xiaochun Li, Ph.D., an Associate Professor of Molecular Genetics and Biophysics.
