Three UT Southwestern students passionate about serving the community were awarded scholarships during this year’s Martin Luther King Jr. Commemorative Celebration. School of Health Professions student D’Nai Thomas received the $5,000 Martin Luther King Jr. Scholarship for Community Service. Two finalists – medical students Ali Sadek and Mayuri Vaish – earned $500 scholarships each.

Two of UT Southwestern’s trailblazing scientists are being honored with national awards from the American Society for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB): Kim Orth, Ph.D., Professor of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry and a Howard Hughes Medical Institute Investigator, and Margaret Phillips, Ph.D., Chair and Professor of Biochemistry and Professor of Pharmacology.

Diane Twickler, M.D., pioneer in fetal and gynecologic imaging, appointed Professor Emeritus of Radiology.

Jiang He, M.D., M.S., Ph.D., an international leader in epidemiology and chronic disease prevention, has begun his role as Chair of the newly created Epidemiology Department in UT Southwestern’s Peter O’Donnell Jr. School of Public Health (OSPH).

Bill Zhang, M.D., receives the Hemphill-Gojer Award in Internal Medicine
