UT Southwestern provides a subsidy for employees and students for DART transportation passes.

As the weeks turn into months in this pandemic, it can be hard to stay focused and positive, especially if residents face a combination of stressors at work and at home. UT Southwestern offers a variety of resources to help residents and other learners in this challenging time.

Dr. Priyanka Gaur came from a family of engineers on her father’s side and doctors on her mother’s. She headed off to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for college thinking she would explore engineering, but her desire to care for patients led her to medicine instead.

Professor Emeritus Dr. Phillip Eugene Jones, who led the Physician Assistant Studies Program in UT Southwestern’s School of Health Professions for more than two decades, has been recognized with a new Professorship in his honor.

Drs. Favela and Argo, who met at UT Southwestern, were hoping to match to the same place. Medical students who go through the match process with their significant other have the option to link their match lists in the National Resident Matching Program. The couple, who became engaged in October, were among seven medical interns from across the U.S. selected for the University of Wisconsin’s general surgery residency program on Match Day a year ago.

Match Day 2020 Student Spotlights

On Jan. 21, UT Southwestern held its 58th annual Medical Student Research Forum, which encourages students’ interest in pursuing professional research.

Physician-scientist Dr. Tamia Harris-Tryon is among 10 professionals in medicine and science across the U.S. selected as Scholars in the Harold Amos Medical Faculty Development Program. The Amos Program, sponsored by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, supports faculty from backgrounds historically underrepresented in senior positions of medicine, dentistry, and nursing.
