UT Southwestern renewed as Amgen Scholar site with two-year grant

UTSW infectious disease researchers will join Rachel L. Levine, Assistant Secretary for Health, and researchers from across the country to reflect on progress treating AIDS/HIV over the last four decades since the disease was first identified. Helen King, M.D., Assistant Professor of Internal Medicine who specializes in sexually transmitted infections including HIV care and prevention, along with Katie Bistransin, Pharm.D., with Parkland Health will report on bridging the gaps to implement a prevention program at Parkland Hospital.

On June 11, UT Southwestern President Daniel K. Podolsky, M.D., announced the opening of nominations for the 2024l Leaders in Clinical Excellence Awards, designed to honor faculty who embody the very best in clinical and institutional excellence.

Joshua Liao, M.D., M.Sc., Professor of Internal Medicine and a leading expert on health care policy, has been appointed to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), a nonpartisan agency that provides congressional analysis and guidance on the key federal health care program.

Dr. Louis W. Sullivan grew up in rural Georgia during the Jim Crow era, but endured to become the founding Dean of Morehouse School of Medicine and the 17th U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services. His son, Dr. Paul Sullivan, followed his example and is now on the faculty at UT Southwestern. Dr. Louis W. Sullivan will be the keynote speaker for UT Southwestern’s Black History Month Celebration on Feb. 6.
