75th anniversary signature event celebrates accomplishments, explores frontiers of medical research

An endowment fund to support the Dennis K. Stone University Lecture for Translational Science has been established at UT Southwestern in memory of the late Dr. Dennis K. Stone, an accomplished scientist who fostered biotech development at UT Southwestern and throughout North Texas.

Children marveled over human and animal brains, raced dinosaurs, and donned lab coats at the recent UT Southwestern Day at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science, celebrating UT Southwestern’s 75th anniversary.

When her dad suffered a stroke, Dr. Leah Carter Smith witnessed the compassionate care he received in the ICU. That experience convinced Dr. Smith to pursue medicine and become an advocate for patients and families through all stages of their lives as a family medicine physician.

As a clinician, Dr. Nikita Agarwal hopes to provide high-quality and compassionate care to her patients. Ultimately, she aspires to use her knowledge of medicine and public health to challenge the systems that make access to health care inequitable for patients.

The selfless dedication of medical professionals who treated his grandmother for a heart attack following a hurricane years ago always stuck in Dr. James Tran’s mind. Even with many roads still flooded at the time, they came to her rescue, inspiring Dr. Tran to eventually follow in their footsteps.

Dr. Kyle Goodman initially studied chemical engineering as an undergrad. But his interest in basic science steered him down a different path, one that would include completing both medical school and graduate school. His chosen specialty of pathology combines his interests of translational research, medicine, and teaching.
