AAMC Early Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar

The AAMC Early Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar is a three-and-a-half-day program designed for women at the Assistant Professor level. Candidates could be physicians or Ph.D. scientists who are considering leadership positions within their disciplines, departments, or institutions.

AAMC Mid-Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar

The AAMC Mid-Career Women Faculty Professional Development Seminar is a three-and-a-half-day program designed for women physicians or Ph.D. scientists at the Associate Professor level. They should hold leadership positions within their discipline, department, or institution.

Alliance for Academic Internal Medicine (AAIM) Executive Leadership Program

The AAIM Executive Leadership program provides formal educational skills and knowledge about finances, operations, planning, and management needed for managerial success. AAIM fosters the advancement of learning, discovery, and caring by enhancing the professional growth of academic internal medicine faculty, administrators, and physicians-in-training. Visit AAIM to learn more about the organization and leadership meetings and opportunities.

ELAM – Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine 

The Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine Program® (ELAM®) prepares senior women faculty members at schools of medicine, dentistry, and public health to effect sustained positive change as institutional leaders. ELAM offers an intensive yearlong program of executive education, personal leadership assessments/coaching, networking, and mentoring activities.

The Drexel University-based program, selects about 60 candidates annually, targeting senior women faculty at the associate or full professor level who demonstrate the greatest potential for assuming executive leadership roles at academic health centers within the next five years.

ELAM, now in its 28th year, is the only national, longitudinal leadership program for women faculty in schools of medicine, dentistry, public health and pharmacy. Its nearly 1,300 graduates hold positions at 300 institutions around the country. 75% of women deans of medical schools are alumnae of ELAM. 

In 2022 ELAM launched a partner program, Executive Leadership in Healthcare (ELH) to focus on the unique needs of aspiring executive leaders in health care. Learn more about the UT Southwestern internal selection process for ELAM and how to apply.

Harvard Macy Institute Program for Educators in Health Professions

The Harvard Macy Institute Program for Educators in Health Professions is a two-part course designed to enhance the professional development of physicians, basic scientists, and other health care professionals as educators. The program is built around six major themes: the science of learning, teaching skills and strategies, inquiry and evidence in education, curriculum design, leadership development, and innovations in education.
