Depths of Development: Align your available time with a desired outcome

Depth

[depth]

  1. the quality of being deep; deepness.
  2. complexity or obscurity.
  3. gravity; seriousness.
  4. emotional profundity.

Stating what we want out of life, professionally or personally, can be misleading. If I say, "I want to get promoted," there is a presumption that because I want it, I feel I deserve it. If I say, "I want to lose five pounds," there is an assumption that I will take the necessary steps to shed some weight.

The most compelling ingredient for successful implementation, then, is not the actual desire we have, but the actions we take toward achieving our goal. The steps we take to move closer to the desired state and away from where we are today. More often than not, time is the greatest factor in keeping us from obtaining what we say we want. It is difficult to not only accomplish what we already have on our plate today, but to take on the additional effort required for our desired tomorrow. If we cannot find the time to make the first move, we limit the depth of our development.

The Depths of Development resource is meant to meet you where you are now – to help you align your available time with your desired outcome. Whether you choose to brush the surface, dive in a bit deeper, or submerge yourself completely, we have you covered.

Whether you have 5 minutes, 25 minutes or an hour or more, what are you prepared to achieve?

"Desires dictate our priorities, priorities shape our choices, and choices determine our actions." – Dallin H. Oaks
