Metabolomics Core

The Metabolomics Core Facility within the Biochemistry Department was established in 2017 by Dr. Hamid Baniasadi. The Core is an analytic facility that uses mass spectrometry techniques for measuring small molecules (metabolites) in biological samples such as cell line, tissue and body fluids. The Metabolomics Core at Biochemistry offers the following services:

  1. Target Metabolomics (up to 150 polar metabolites) (LC-MS/MS analysis) (Triple Quad 6500, Sciex): Our service includes targeting of 289 metabolites using positive and negative ionization mode with multiple reaction monitoring (MRM). We are able to detect up to 150 polar metabolites in a biological sample.
  2. Absolute quantitation of a single metabolite (LC-MS/MS analysis) (Triple Quad 6500, Sciex): In an absolute quantitation of metabolites, the core focuses on targeting a specific metabolite or group of metabolites for quantitation using heavy internal standards.
  3. Untargeted Metabolomics using TripleTOF® 6600 System, Sciex: Untargeted mass spectrometry (MS) based metabolomics analysis focuses on global detection and relative quantification of metabolites in a biological sample. This approach can be used for biomarker discovery and also identification of metabolic pathways which might contribute to treatments and diseases.
  4. Small molecule analysis for exact mass determination (LC-MS analysis) (TripleTOF® 6600 System, Sciex): We offer exact mass measurement with less than 5-10 ppm mass accuracy, data processing and generation of the report.
  5. Method Development: We develop new assay per user requests.

Consultation with Dr. Baniasadi regarding sample preparation and experimental design is recommended before sample preparation and design of experiment.

Metabolomics Fee

Metabolomics Fee is as follows:
